Each fall, the Alberton Volunteer Fire Department and the Alberton Recreation Committee combine efforts and host a fun-filled Community BBQ and meet & greet at the Millennium Park Site on Hill Road!

The festivities usually start at 1 p.m. and go until everyone heads home. The VFD members flip burgers and roast hotdogs, and beverages and goodies are also served -- all free of charge! All you have to do is bring is your lawn chair, your sense of fun and have a great time with your family, friends & neighbours. There's a pavilion, playground equipment for the kids, outdoor exercise equipment for the adults, and a basketball net set up on the concrete surface of the rink (bring your own ball).

The Alberton Recreation Committee plans and sponsors at least one skating party each winter season as the Township's outdoor rink facility, which includes family skating, a bonfire, weiner and marshmallow roasting, hot coffee or chocolate, and sometimes even sleigh rides! It's a perfect way to spend a winter afternoon.

This project is currently in the development stage and is spearheaded by the Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists group. The Cranberry Peatlands Interpretive Trail is located at the end of Whitmore Road in Alberton. While the boardwalk is currently only partly complete, once the project is finished, the Trail will provide a unique natural experience and educational opportunity to all. The self-directed tour will feature a boardwalk complete with viewing pavilions and informational signage on the myriad flora and fauna which exist within the bog, which houses some provincially significant species. The project is spearheaded by the Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists and the Rainy Lake Conservancy and development is partially funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship - Canada's premier bass fishing tournament is held on Rainy Lake in late July every year and is a favourite with anglers and spectators alike, with something for everyone from great fishing, big cash prizes, Daytime Land for the kids and night-time entertainment throughout!

From Atikokan to Rainy River to Nestor Falls, the Rainy River District offers groomed trails and open areas complete with picturesque scenery to enhance your snowmobiling experience and enjoyment of the great outdoors. The groomed snowmachine trail maintained by the Sunset Country Snowmobile Club runs through Alberton.

The Emo Fair is held each year at the RRVAA fairgrounds in Emo on the third weekend in August and is a premier event for area residents and their families, who gather to chat with old friends and acquaintances from across the District. The fair includes a midway, competitions at the grandstand, craft and agricultural displays, nightly stock car races, plus a Fair Queen contest. The fair is well-attended. As part of their emergency management programs, Alberton and other district municipalities jointy host a booth to provide free information to the public.

The Borderland Racing Association schedules races throughout the summer at the Emo Speedway. Drivers from Canada and the US compete on the 3/8th of a mile long clay banked track each weekends throughout the season. Alberton's own Steve Arpin , who now drives NASCAR, raced on the Emo Speedway during part of his early career.
